WASHINGTON (AFP) - A special prosecutor probing a
CIA leak scandal swirling around the White House set the stage for a dramatic denouement, when key Bush administration aides could face indictments.
No announcement was expected on the outcome of the case on Thursday, prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald's spokesman Randall Samborn told AFP.
Fitzgerald met the grand jury he has used to delve deep into the White House power structure on Wednesday, but did not make any public statements, stirring another night of frenzied speculation.
The grand jury's mandate expires on Friday, and Fitzgerald was faced with making indictments public then or closing his investigation with no charges.
