The exit poll of voters who chose "uncommited" as their candidate, that I saw on MSNBC, showed seventy-some percent *overall* favored Obama, and only 17% favored Edwards. It wasn't broken down by ethnicity, or any other sub-category of voters.

In this primary, there were no delegates awarded to the "winner", and there was a distinct incentive for progressives to cross over to vote for a beatable/less awful Republican. (The dailyKos called for backing Romney.)
