She didn't have to insult him but what she was saying goes way beyond "saying something nice":
Asked to say one nice thing about President Bush, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton went one better: She named two things.
I am sorry, it is like kissing Bush's ass and than thanking him for the honor.
I understand that politicians have to be diplomatic, but that doesn't require her to gush about how fantastic and wonderful he is when in actuality he is not. She could have just said "He helped New York after 9/11" ... that would have been plenty.
It doesn't matter which of the presidential candidates does the ass-kissing, it is an insult to a lot of people who are angry about what Bush and Cheney have done to this country and the world.
