really afford to be altruistic--I could support causes, give to charities in amounts that are far greater than I can manage these days, and life, all in all, was good. I especially liked the fact that we were in a Peacetime environment, 'peacekeeping' notwithstanding. It made military service especially rewarding, because much of our efforts were geared towards helping others during that timeframe.
