As I was flipping channels yesterday I saw a brief segment on Lou Dobbs ( :puke: ) of "outrage" over illegal immigrants caucusing in Nevada today. "They don't have to prove they are legal to vote," was the mantra.
Several years ago, when living in Texas, I sold guns for a living. In Texas, at the time, all one had to do to get a gun was to show ID showing that one was at least 21 years of age (for hand guns) and answer a few questions "correctly." There was NO background check (something that the NRA opposed for years), no waiting period---show the idea and answer the questions and sign the form, and "here's your gun--do you need ammunition with that purchase?)
One of the questions on the form is: "Are you an illegal alien?" Now, what illegal alien trying to purchase a firearm is going to answer the question, "Yes?" Therefore, one can be very confident in assuming that MANY illegal aliens purchased firearms in Texas---and, there wasn't a Republican to be found bitching about it.
To illustrate how easy it was to purchase an assault weapon in Texas at the time: I had a guy come in on a Saturday at "Oshman's Sporting Goods" where I worked, purchased an AR-15 (which is the semi-automatic version of the M-16 machine gun), and all of the ammunition we had in stock. (The manager of the store said it was OK to take his check, although the bank was not open to verify he had the funds to pay for it--he didn't.)
Two weeks later, I was picking this guy out of a police lineup. He murdered a man.
Come to find out----he was on parole after serving a partial sentence for a violent crime involving a gun. One of the questions on the form is: Have you ever been convicted of a crime for which the punishment was more than 11 months and 29 days?
The bastard lied. (Surprise, surprise!) But, no background check to find that out existed!

The Republicans are OUTRAGED that some illegal aliens might be caucusing in Nevada, and voting in the General Election. But, when it comes to selling firearms to those same illegal aliens---they don't want such background checks. They see such checks as an infringement on THEIR 2nd amendment rights. Yet, they don't see how profiling hispanics a perhaps being "illegal" when it comes to voting could possibly be upsetting to hispanic people.
Hypocritical bastards.
