2) The fact that he dared speak of topics that had been almost forbidden by the right wing throughout all these years from Reagan to the present;
3) The fact that he is a brilliant speaker.

But you left out a 4th - his wife is absolutely brilliant and also down-to-earth; what an excellent First Lady she would have been. I can't say enough about Elizabeth.
