Remember when Bush painted himself as a 'compassionate conservative', it made him look more moderate and more attractive to independents.

What Obama says about hope and change and uniting the country sounds to many people like he's a moderate who wants to end the partisan bickering that has caused so much deadlock and such in Washington.
