I would consider Nancy Pelosi to also be symptomatic of this new 'do nothing' liberalism, and her congressional district demographic is much more in line with what you are talking about - the wealthy status quo liberals who don't want to make too many waves. By the way, I and others have pestered my own (white) representative (not Pelosi) to support Conyers and she has.

I believe that Obama has the support of enough powerful and potential agents of change in national politics that he really can make a difference, and he is not just the latest fad of upscale liberals.
