My involvement in that primary was much less noble than yours. Not noble at all really. I was a Junior at Portland State, and had been a-political until McCarthy came along. He was my candidate. I remember how I gleeful I was when I managed to surreptitiously pin a McCarthy button on Warren Beatty's back while he was campaigning for Bobby on the Portland State campus.

A week later (I think), I was watching Kennedy's victory speech in California on TV, and saw him get shot as he was leaving in a crush of people (at least I think I saw it live.) At that moment all partisanship ended for me and there was only shock and grief.
