... attacked the DUer. A personal attack in response to the expression of an opinion is NOT civil or rational.

This has become common in this forum ... an apparent inability to maintain a MESSAGE focus and not a MESSENGER focus.

Example:
DUerA: "I can't support Hillary."
DUerB: "You're a sexist!"

Example:
DUerA: "I can't support Obama."
DUerB: "You're a racist!"

Throwing SHIT at the person expressing advocacy or opposition is a fallacy .. an ad hominem ... and betrays a fundamental flaw in one's reasoning processes.

A focus on the MESSAGE, however, can be valid ... even if there's an implication inherent in the analysis or deconstruction of that message.

Example:
DUerA: "I can't support Hillary because she's a female."
DUerB: "That's a sexist reason!"

Example:
DUerA: "I can't support Obama because he's a black."
DUerB: "That's a racist reason!"

See the difference?
