Hillary's strategy: embrace racists, cry sexism? |
|
I honestly was trying to give Hillary Clinton the benefit of the doubt the last two weeks, I admire her tenacity and a lot of the work she has done to help the country. All that changed today. I heard the NPR interview and it crushed much of the respect I had for her.
It is absolutely beyond the pale for me to hear her cry sexism NOW, after she lauded how she was getting the "hard working white vote" in W.VA and KY and said Obama was having a "problem" with that vote. When it was really important to speak out against racism, she kept her mouth shut because it was politically convenient for her. Now that she appears to have lost to her opponent, she still remains silent about racism but begins to cry sexism.
I am not denying that sexism played a role in this campaign, BUT, and this is a big BUT... SO DID RACISM. I firmly support equal rights for women, but decrying sexism because you're losing while embracing racist supporters is just despicable.
If Hillary Clinton were a true advocate for human rights and equality, she would be talking about BOTH sexism AND racism and decrying BOTH of their roles in this campaign. As it stands she is only speaking out about the topic that negatively affects HER, and that's not the way a true advocate for civil rights and equality behaves in my opinion. From here it looks like she is just looking out for Hillary Clinton, and playing any card she can to get any kind of advantage she can. I'm sorry but that kind of behavior is not garnering a lot of respect from me.
