17. Here's what I think
Being that she has made this comparison multiple times before, she obviously thought about it. My guess is, she got with her consultants and decided to use historical incidents of June primaries as illustrative examples, in order to further her arguments. When making such a case, it is always wise to use more than one example, especially when that one example is one's own husband. She and her team possibly mulled it over and chose RFK's 1968 run because it would pluck the heartstrings of those listening. It would also conflate Bill Clinton with the Kennedy legacy. Callous? Calculating? That's marketing. That's politics.

My thinking is that, because she and her advisors were so single-minded, the possibility that such a comparison would cause anguish would be minimal to the overall effect of the statement.

They thought wrong.
