How is this for a poll tax?

I'm chatting with a friend over Y! and he tells me that he's home for the day. Why? I ask. Because the elementary school where 3 of his kids go, is closed for the day because its a polling place!!!!

So he's had to take his last paid time off day, from work, to sit his kids (his wife is a teacher, and that school is in session today).

:wtf:

As a kid, growing up, many of my schools were polling places for elections. And not once did I get the day off because of an election. I agree that election day should be a national holiday so folks can vote, but making my friend waste a paid day off is over the top!
