I fell off the progressive bandwagon when I started hearing pro-corporate economic conservatives calling themselves "progressives."

I think some people use the word to mean a "progressed" individual, an enlightened and sophisticated person who may be deeply conservative on economic issues who is socially liberal. To my way of thinking, that is more accurately described as "moderate Republican" than "progressive."
