I think it was stilted and unatural. I think she was trying too hard to help the Obama campaign and blurted out something that exploited then current increasing netroots distrust of Clinton in some circles, because Obama was benefitting politically from that trend. I think her apology was much more of a natural reflection of who Samantha is. It was incredibly classy, taking full responsibility with no evasions and none of that "I'm sorry if anyone was offended" wishy washy crap.

Of course we are both speculating, but in any regard I am very pleased that she has been re-embraced in a public role by Obama. I think very highly of her.
