38. Martin Bell stood here in Essex in 2001
but failed to topple the sitting Conservative Eric Pickles in Brentwood & Ongar (the constituency I happen to work in) over the alleged infiltration of members of Peniel Church into the local Conservative association.

He also stood as an independent in the Euro Elections but this year he didn't run for office but publicly endorsed a few candidates such as the Lib Dem running in the aforementioned Brentwood & Ongar.
