177. what happened the other day was bad enough
although I'm far enough away not to have been personally affected -- probably 25-30 miles as the crow flies, much longer if you have to actually use the freeways :o

What worries me is that the plants over there are aging, and with blivet** and his friends in power, the inspections and safety regs are becoming more lax when they need to be more rigorous. Old equipment and half-assed inspections and complexes full of toxic and/or flammable chemicals? I'm seeing a real shit-and-fan moment coming down the pike, and what happened the other day was just a preview for a coming attraction. I'm hoping it will be enough of a wake-up call that BP and the other companies will see the writing on the wall, but I know that's wishful thinking. That particular plant has had several problems in the past few years. Who needs terrorists when you have shortsighted businessmen willing to do the job for you?
