5. I had a lot of dreams that indicated that war was coming, but
I don't think it needed dreams to figure out that * and his cohorts had war and war only on their minds. It became even clearer as the lies piled on top of one another.

I tried to pray too, to join with others to try to avert what was coming but as some have said on this thread there was just too much power behind the idea of war. I do think there were many millions of people praying for peace, but it just wasn't to be.

Iraq is one of the great tragedies in human history, and it was very hard I think to avoid seeing what was going to happen. Still, I know there are times when it's very easy to delude ourselves because of what others are saying. Nobody wants to believe that the government is just dishing out lie after lie, so we don't like to doubt everything.

I remember the time when I almost believed that the war might be justified. It was in Sep of 02 when * and Blair were meeting at Camp David and Bush said that the IAEA, when it was pushed out of Iraq the last time (actually they weren't pushed out but left of their own accord when they realized the war was coming), had reported that Saddam could have a nuclear bomb in 6 months. I hadn't thought about it being that soon, so I was amazed. And for a week nobody even disputed *'s claim. It took a reporter at the WA Times of all places to actually get the brilliant idea of actually calling the IAEA to find out if it might be true. Of course it was a complete fabrication. The IAEA had actually said that Iraq was in no danger of building a bomb, that it would take FIVE YEARS before they'd even be able to start to develop one.

It's pretty hard to blame the American people when for a year or more they were bombarded by lies like the IAEA one, a propaganda barrage the likes of which I don't think has ever happened in the US except maybe in war time. But even thru it all I'm not sure a majority ever favored invasion. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but if it was a majority in favor it was a slim majority.

We're just beginning to feel the effects of what we've done, along with many others too I guess. A hard rain's a gonna fall.
