6. Diesel-Electric eh ? must be extremely quiet...meaning we should
be focusing on our anti-submarine detection capabilities if we are to pursue our new rail gun experiment. I read in Pop Sci a half year or so back that the US was considering installing rain guns on it's ships to save costs on firing projectiles. The projectiles would be fired into space, re-enter the atmosphere, and with satellite guidance, hit the target and destroy it with kinetic energy alone. The only problem is that the power required would force the ship, to come to a halt and shift power to the guns. Now why pray tell would we want to make ships, sitting ducks??

This rail gun system is a great idea, just make it land-based and leave the navy be.
