Amendment 1
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
(December 15, 1791)

For two hundred and fifteen years, Amendment 1 has been widely recognized as one of the most essential building blocks of democracy. And at no time in our nation's history has it been more important than today.

In the last ten days, I've advocated that progressive democrats support the call for Congressional investigations of the Bush-Cheney administration's activities that have led us to war in Iraq. There are a wide range of opinions among members of the Democratic Underground, and that's a good thing. I urge people, no matter what their views are, to take advantage of the opportunities the '06 elections have provided, and to exercise those Constitutional Rights defined in Amendment 1.

The elections marked an important series of victories for all democrats. We need to continue to work for progress. Celebrate Amendment #1's birthday by writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper; call in to C-SPAN; and call/write/e-mail your elected officials in the House of Representatives and the Senate. Petition the government for a redress of grievances.

well, you know
we all want to change your head. ...."

Honor the Constitution of the United States of America. Impeach Dick Cheney.
