Ex-chief of staff has Cheney’s support
Vice president calls Libby “one of the more honest men I know.”

Libby

WASHINGTON | Vice President Dick Cheney called his former chief of staff, who goes on trial this week in the CIA leak case, “one of the more honest men I know.” He said Sunday on “Fox News Sunday” that he expects to testify for the defense.

I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby faces charges of perjury and obstruction of an investigation into the leak of a CIA officer’s identity to reporters.

Jury selection is to begin Tuesday in Washington in a trial that should give the public glimpses of how Bush administration insiders responded to one high-level critic — former ambassador Joseph Wilson — who claimed that the president and his closest advisers distorted intelligence and lied to push the nation into war with Iraq.

Cheney described Libby as “one of the finest individuals I’ve ever known.” Asked in a broadcast interview if Libby is honest, the vice president replied: “I believe he’s one of the more honest men I know.”
