Sarkozy 'to tie knot with ex-model next month'

NICOLAS Sarkozy, the president of France, could marry the Italian singer and former model Carla Bruni early next month, according to a Sunday newspaper.
The Journal du Dimanche said Mr Sarkozy had given Ms Bruni a diamond engagement ring and a wedding date had been set for Friday or Saturday, 8 or 9 February. Mr Sarkozy's office declined to comment.

The report coincided with the release of an opinion poll showing a seven-point drop in Mr Sarkozy's ratings, mainly because of concern over the economy but also his private life.
