2. 1815 - 1848

is a fascinating period in US history. I think that the citizens of that era were unlikely to stand for the amount of corruption, crimes, and abuses of the power of office that is accepted today. It may be one of the reasons that it is not as closely studied as it should be .... your description of it being "an underappreciated time in our history" is right on target.
