That's it!...I'm moving to Canada!

...not really, at least not this time, but I was thinking:

What made me think about this is a conservative friend's dismal fear that our country is "becoming socialist like Europe". He wished there was a "New World" he could go to "like our ancestors". (He isn't pleased with McCain)

Every time a one of us gets mad at the government, the threat of emigration to the North comes up. I've said it, my dad said it, and you've probably said it sometime in the last eight years.

We never do it, but at least we have a perceived sanctuary when we need to express our outrage with the government.

If a neo-con gets mad at their government, where can they threaten to go that's more right wing than here? They can't use Canada, because they're more liberal than us, what with their socialized medicine and high taxes. Mexico's out because while abortion is illegal, they don't speak English. They can't threaten a move to Greenland unless Limbaugh goes to short wave.

Iran? ...Can they get frustrated enough to move there? I can hear it now:

"That's it!...I'm moving to Iran, where the government doesn't ignore religion!"
Or
"I've had it!...I'm heading to Syria, where they wont try to take my guns!"
Or
"That's the last straw!... I'm going to North Korea, where they respect their borders!"

Hahahaha... Every other choice they have of a "utopian nation" seems to be a sworn enemy or third world country. I finally wrote back to my friend, suggesting perhaps he can make the pilgrimage to Antarctica where he can just use a "no trespassing sign" for his country's flag and build a fence no one will ever see.

Who knew his "love it or leave it" bumper sticker would come back to bite him in the ass.

While I've got your attention, I've been dying to share this off-topic pic I found.
I love an elaborate sense of humor (And Spongebob):
