I think the Americans were faced with a choice of those actually committing criminal acts vs. those that want to let them off the hook. Noone had a shot at running against these two parties fairly to present an alternative that would have held criminals responsible for their actions. Given that choice, we voted for those that didn't commit criminal acts, not for them letting them off the hook!

When Pelosi leads congress into passing Instant Runoff Voting into law, where we might actually be able to have that choice, then I don't think she'd have impeachment "off the table" as the corporate lobbyists probably are limited to being able to buy off the top two parties and not every candidate that comes into the mix for various offices. Hope that Nader uses that as his negotiation card to pull out of the race later (getting Instant Runoff Voting made into law).
