8. I get the impression Lars wanted Tancredo or Hunter
While I take some joy in their misfortune, I am given pause by 3 things:

1) To be a radio host, and to entertain (which in this context means delight or piss off people enough to make them want to listen), you have to be an on-air extremist. The fact that RW extremists don't think McCain is tough enough reinforces the image that the man is really a moderate. The truth, as we all know, is that he'll be Bush III.

2) The "Ron Paul Revolution" will lose the battle, but they are liable win the war. Assume for a moment that current trends hold and the GOP endures an electoral bloodbath. I'm going to bet that the Ron Paul crowd will be the ones to step up and take control of the party. The result will be new, younger, energized Republican party focused on a) shifting the tax burden much more heavily to the middle and lower classes through a "fair tax" that will largely leave the incomes of the super-wealthy alone, and b) destroying as much of the regulatory authority of the federal government and social safety net as they can get away with. They'll de-emphasize the world leader and family values emphasis, and push individual freedom, get government off the backs of small business, repeal income tax, defend the borders, and ship back the illegals.

3) I agree they are miserable over on righty radio, but let's look in the mirror. Our party, too, is likely headed toward a day-of-reckoning. Seen GDP lately?
