Millions of absentee ballots yet to be counted
By Troy May

There is still hope that the ban on gay marriage will not pass despite the early election results that shows us losing. The race is still too close to call.

As of early this morning, there are 5,163,908 votes in favor of the ban on gay marriage, and 4,760,336 against the ban. That’s a difference of 403,572 votes to freedom for gay couples.

“Fact is there are millions of votes that are yet to be counted,” said Kate Kendell, executive director for the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and board member of the No On Proposition 8 campaign. “The election is still too close to call.”

In a press conference today, Proposition 8 opponents, said there are still 3 million to 4 million absentee ballots that need to be counted. The late ballots were mailed during the last five days or so. Those who vote late by absentee tend to be more liberal and progressive than those who vote early via absentee, said Geoff Kors, executive director for Equality California.

“My ballot is one of those,” Kors said. Kendell added that she too just mailed in her absentee ballet this weekend.
The final votes on “Proposition 8 “is expected later today, or even tomorrow from the California Secretary of State.
