Her DU name was, "erma," and she has been a member since 2001. Her full name was, Erma Knox. She is the one who originally turned me on to the Democratic Underground. She never posted a single thread or comment in six years, though she read the threads and articles here religiously the whole time she was a member. She spent a couple hours a day, minimum, reading threads here. She knows all of you by name. She was African American, and I am Caucasian. She was my sister in laws mother. I became good friends with her while doing maintenance on her PC. We joked that she was my, "Mother in law, in law." Everything in her life since january 2001 has revolved around seeing Bush out the door. She donated to the DU, and many democratic candidates. Her television was always on CSPAN and her radio was always on air america. She lived and breathed politics to the point of driving others around her crazy (those in her family who are less politically inclined). Of course, being quite political myself, we got along swimmingly. She was diagnosed with hepatitis C back in the 90s. She could have gotten it from a transfusion, or one of her ex husbands, she didn't know. She first went onto the transplant list back in the late 90s but went into remission in 2000. She was sick off and on since then. She swore to me that she would not die until, "That mother fucker (Bush) is held to account for his crimes." We joked that, if she did die, she would scratch and claw her way out of the ground to see that asshat go on trial. She did civil rights work back in the 1960s. Her recent political positions were largely rooted in fear, for the future of her grandkids. Once the democrats won last November, she changed. She became more relaxed and at ease and retrospective. By that time she was on the transplant list again, and was bloated from water buildup in her body. She took herself off of the list last December because she was told she had to go to AA meetings for 90 days before she would be given a liver. She flatly refused because she didn't drink. She had decided that Bush would finally pay for his misdeeds and she was tired of being sick all of the time. I last spoke to her on friday after the plame hearings which she watched with very, very much satisfaction. She died last night about 1:15 AM. I will miss you Erma.
