We will all rise when we rise together. I've been reading some of the posts of the last couple of days and it really makes me feel ill at the pit of my stomach. That we can stand on the edge of a great and bright future for our nation and turn on one another and talk past one another after all of the work of the past 8 years is frightening. Surely, it is worthwhile to continue to engage with one another rather than pull the tent down.

Now, we came on this journey together. Granted, some of it was in fits and starts but we arrived at this point together. When we lift each other up, we rise. When we fight for the dignity and equality of all, we rise. When we embrace knowledge and enlightenment, we rise.

I just want to encourage us rise together because we cannot afford to turn back. We cannot, not one of us, afford to shun one another because when we leave one behind, we leave ourselves behind. The fight for civil liberties and equal rights must be for all people. If we do not stand united, our stated principles are no more than empty words.

Before I get flamed for engaging in platitudes, I would also say that we need to take positive action steps upward. Recriminations get us nowhere. Obama has spoken about healing the nation. DU is a good place to start and the issue of Prop. 8 is a good place to begin to heal the wounds of the culture wars. We need to engage in some meaningful dialogue and outreach with one another. I would venture to say that are people willing to listen on all sides. There has been much suffering in the GLBT community and in the African-American community, and much of the nation is blind to it or just uninformed. Let's work together within the Party and within our DU commuinty to lead by example and take it to the nation.

Let's leave noone behind. We will all rise when we rise together.
