I'd argue that Christianity has never outgrown this phase. Perhaps it has shown more tolerance for sexual orientation, but it still has major issues with people being "different".

The stigma of every Muslim being an extremist and of every Arab being Muslim was a major component in selling the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq to the people. The big conservative evangelist stars were one of the main trumpets of the regime, which laid the foundations for years of death and carnage in the ME.

No religion is beyond that point, as they're all successfully abused to convince people that different is bad. And if we really do go and try to keep scores of who's done it more, you'll see Christianity is the first among equals.
