IIRC the cop was really torn up by what he did. Even though it was clearly an accident.

The officer forgot that the dog was in the car. He didn't leave the dog in the car on purpose.

A dog is a dog is a dog. Killing a K-9 is no different than killing a mut. It's a fucking dog. The officer had no intent to harm the dog and didn't even have the intent to leave the dog in the car. It was clearly an accident and the officer clearly understood the magnitude of the situation. You don't get to be a K-9 officer by being cruel to animals.
