Both voter fraud and election fraud are commonplace in Florida. I was a deputy supervisor of elections in Florida years ago, and witnessed four distinct kinds of fraud take place which contributed significantly to the narrow defeat of a populist ballot measure. When the 2000 treason occurred, I was not in the least bit surprised, although I'd long since left the state.

The point is that they can't investigate / prosecute Coulter's case without opening the floodgates for investigation of scores of other examples of voter fraud and election fraud that are accepted as par for the course in the Sunshine State. On an even bigger scale, the fundamental problem we have as a nation is that we have never figured out how to conduct truly free and fair elections. But to keep the discussion limited to Florida, just bear in mind that county and state officials make strenuous efforts year in and year out to maintain the appearance of democracy so that the citizens don't have to worry their minds and can get on with their golf games. Investigating the case of a "celebrity" such as Coulter will stir up all kinds of havoc that has just barely been contained, over the years, by the concerted hush campaigns of many, many officials, both elected and appointed. And we can't have that now, can we?
