Democrats are pushing back on Mitt Romney's new ad attacking President Obama for distorting Obama's own words from the 2008 campaign.

The first ad this season from the GOP presidential hopeful, which begins running today as Obama visits New Hampshire, quotes then-candidate Obama as saying: "If we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose."

What the ad doesn't say is that Obama is quoting an adviser to Arizona Sen. John McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee. Romney's campaign acknowledges the reference to McCain, in a news release and e-mail to supporters sent out Monday night.

Ben LaBolt, a spokesman for Obama's re-election campaign, is quoted in The Washington Post as saying the Romney spot "a deceitful and dishonest attack." The Democratic National Committee says the 60-second spot "continues a pattern of dishonesty and a lack of credibility on issues that matter to the American people."
