Cops are burning street kids' blankets - SA
Police in Johannesburg are allegedly confiscating blankets donated to street children because they are "littering".

The blankets have been donated by Operation Snowball, the corporate social responsibility arm of Independent Newspapers.

However, right in the midst of winter, Johannesburg Metro Police are allegedly confiscating the blankets and telling the street kids they would be burning them.

"What happened to the child-friendly city documented by the United Nations," asked Reverend Les Sanabria of the Gauteng Alliance for Street Children (Gast).

According to Sanabria, the Metropolitan Council has for some time tried to remove streets kids from the town's pavements with the aim of having a clean city and promoting tourism, but has failed to do so.
