~snip~

JERUSALEM, Nov. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- An Israeli tank mistakenly killed three Egyptian security officers near the border early Thursday, an incident that Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Ze'ev Boim termed as "regrettable and grave in its outcome."

The Israeli tank crew, operating near the Philadephi Route in the Rafah area bordering the Palestinian lands and Egypt, apparently thought the three to be Palestinians smuggling weapons.

The tank then fired a shell across the border before dawn and killed the three, a senior Israeli security source told the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz.

"Three Egyptian troops were killed," the source said. "Our tank thought they were Palestinian weapons smugglers."

edit: another link to the story, thank you Domitan.

1. is there another source
i don't think this source is very reliable. there were multiple posts on a story from this source a little over a week ago which was never confirmed.

4. bollocks to that link
That story is rather "cleansed" in my opinion.
Check out Aljazeera's story on same:

http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/1290AE2A-9E6D-4959-8887-2A2B4EA4BCC2.htm

The Egyptians were all wearing army uniforms and apparently the Israeli tank fired at around 20m distance

5. Even if that link is "watered down"
at least the MSM (mainstream media) is acknowledging the Israeli killing of 3 Egyptians as fact. How the story is told by the link...now that's a moot point.

6. did you notice the yahoo headline...
3 dead, not 'Egyptians Dead'. Always editing for the US consumption.

7. You can always count on MSM and Al-jazeera to have diff. headlines
in the yahoo link, I saw this, "Israeli troops killed three Egyptian policemen" and other details about the identity of the slain men. Between the Chinese link and yahoo link, there is no substantial difference in the essence of this report. As for the Al-Jazeera, it adds the Egyptian reaction and the strain this incident has on the Egyptian-Israeli relationship.

8. remember the USS Liberty
Another -- and in fact far more egregious -- "mistake" that the American media has astonishingly little to say about.

9. I found that story very disturbing
Lyndon Johnson and co.'s coverups were equally if not more disturbing than the deliberate murders of the USS Liberty men.
