U.S. troops battle guerrillas in Iraq's Ramadi
http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/MAC840008.htm

RAMADI, Iraq, Nov 18 (Reuters) - U.S. troops clashed with heavily armed guerrillas in the western Iraqi city of Ramadi on Thursday, local residents said.

At the U.S. Marine headquarters in nearby Falluja, which is responsible for Ramadi, a spokesman said he had no details of new fighting there, a day after clashes in the city left at least nine Iraqis dead and 15 wounded.

Residents said it appeared that U.S. armoured units had entered parts of eastern and central Ramadi on Thursday to confront guerrillas who opened fire on them with mortars, rocket-propelled grenades and machineguns. The previous day, large groups of guerrillas had taken to the streets of the city.

U.S. aircraft bombed an industrial area in the east of Ramadi on Wednesday.

bomb into compliance? I guess it is that village deal. Wipe it out to save it. To hell with what we are doing there. I'm ashamed and heartbroken.

The people of Iraq never deserved this. Not after 10 years of sanctions that were responsible for the deaths of 500,000+. Our country, the USofA is never to be forgiven. Especially since we installed Saddam and for oh so many years he was our best friend in the Mid-East. We have much to pay for. My heart hurts for all we are responsible for. I know how I would feel if it was my country.

Just pretend something similar was happening here. Please God, save us all. I'm sorry, I hope many others are as well.

On edit: I think there are many here that do not know that Iraq was about to be a 1st world nation right before we (the US) encouraged their engagement with Iran that lasted for 10 years. Right after, we encouraged them in their engagement with Kuwait. Just look up "April and Saddam".

2. Saddam began
his career as a CIA asset, but I think it is mistaken to say the U.S. government "installed" him in office. I think the Ba'ath Party deserves much of the credit or blame for overthrowing the Iraqi monarchy.

You have left out the hundreds of billions of dollars given to Israel unconditionally over the years. Israel used this to become the fifth largest possessor of nuclear armaments on the planet. This is a far greater long-term provocation to the region than anything done in Iraq, however horrendous it was and is.

3. I left nothing out. Israel issues go to another forum or you risk being
banned. I wear a Palestinian ribbon every day, and yes, you are correct in much of what you say. Now, go to the correct forum. And no, I am not mistaken in saying the US installed Saddam. Be careful, you need to do more research and read some more history.

I left nothing out, I just know where I can and can not
post such controversial material. (Be careful where you tread).

Welcome to DU.

4. Thanks for the warning
Are you one of the moderators? That would be pretty ironic considering your name.

I guess the CIA had really fallen farther out of favor than even I had thought if it was actually running Iraq in 2003 when the U.S. forces rolled in.

6. I've always respected your efforts anarchy1999 but...

berating someone for mentioning Isreal in a discussion of the middle east is a little bit pedantic in my opinion. It is not like each of
these countries exist in a separate void. Context is important. I'm
not even saying I agree or disagree with either one of you but just
because Isreal is mentioned does not make it some offense worth banning.

7. I did not mean to berate. I've gotten myself into trouble over this issue
The mods and founders created a special forum a year or two back for Israel issues to be discussed. It had become a very heated topic many times on GD. I once again was not berating I did not think, I was just isssuing a friendly warning and in reading back on my initial post I mentioned nothing of Israel. I'm apologize to anyone I may have offended, I did not mean to. Peace to you all.

5. Many here are ashamed and heart broken with you
God may forgive us for what we are doing to the world
but I, for one, am counting on no such salvation
