GI threatens suicide over return to Iraq
http://www.connpost.com/Stories/0,1413,96~3750~2566834,00.html

A serviceman, apparently distraught over the prospect of being sent back to the war in Iraq, threatened to kill himself as he stood naked and screaming outside his house.

Police took the man into custody at his Fernwood Drive house. He was taken for treatment to Bridgeport Hospital.

Dispatched to investigate a report of a possible suicide attempt Thursday, officers saw the man naked with blood on his body in front of the garage area, police said. As officers approached, the man yelled at them and ran back into the house, according to police.

2. After struggling with officers, the man told police,,,
...that he was scheduled to be sent back to Iraq in January, but didn't want to because he would be forced to kill more people, police said.

Can't argue with that. I would not want to go back there and kill more people either.

8. a natural and normal response
to an unnatural situation - one created and continued by the feckless policies of the mal-administration.

I am so sorry for this man - his life, as with others, has been devastated by the immoral squatter residing at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

9. For real
My dad was a WWII combat engineer. After the war, he was afraid that he'd get called up to go to Korea. He told me later that if they had called him back to active duty, there would be two dead guys; he and the guy who came to get him.

He died of complications from Alzheimer's Disease, and in his last weeks of life imagined being bombed with what little of his memory was left. My family had to coax him out from under his bed. He was terrified, much as this guy must be.

I hope every phony Republican-voting sunshine patriot who supports this murderous Bush regime reads this story and thinks about what we are doing this for. :grr: </rant>

11. What are we doing???!!!
My God, what are we doing to our young men and women? The ones who don't come back in body bags or with their limbs missing will at least have scars on the inside that may never heal. It makes me want to cry. This war is sheer madness.

14. They'll probably give him Thorazine.
Or maybe shock treatments. One way or the other, they will experiment on his mind, just to see if they can keep other soldiers from reacting in a crazy manner.

Which is to say, keep them from reacting as any normal, sane person would react.

After reading this, it makes me feel like running outside screaming.

15. My mother and I
had this talk before the war even started. And the main point both of us made was the fact that anybody who is sent to kill people, will not come home the same. Being a "Viet Nam" baby, who grew up with the father with crazy nightmares, and all the other problems, it was one of the first things I thought of. Now I get to see another generation that has children that are confused, afraid, and unable to help their parents. It SUCKS to sit, watch, and live with someone you love, who has been mentally destroyed by war.

generation of mentally damaged veterans to join the homeless Vietnam veterans, sleeping under our bridges and in the woods and under cardboard boxes.

The future for a lot of these guys is fighting the Viet Nam Vets for their space under the bridge. Their younger and stronger. Guess who loses again?

26. Poor bastard.
The war really did a number on him. It does to all of them really, they just show it in different ways. You CANNOT experience war first hand and have it not adversely affect you. Anyone who says different has never been to war. And probably has their head stuck up their ass.

I hope he gets the help he needs. I doubt it, though.

He should have pretended to come out as "Gay and Proud."
