ID cards: keep up to date or face fine of £1000 (UK)
FINES of up to £1000 will be issued to people who fail to tell the government when they move house or change their name after marriage, under new identity card plans.

The details emerged as the controversial £3.1bn national ID card system was formally unveiled yesterday.

Just saw this in the Herald. I had no idea that they were planning a national ID card system over in the UK. I thought this would be interesting news to those who oppose the idea in the US.

4. They pay tribute to the "war on terror"
The authorities regularly scare the Brits with terror warnings.

And probably the Tories would pursue the same plan...

6. Apparently 80 per cent favour ID cards
according to polls. I haven't, myself, met one of them, so find that very hard to believe. The government quotes it all the time, though.

8. This is why the UK media is being carpet-bombed with ...
... trivial shit about David Blunkett's bedwarmer ...

(David Blunkett is the Home Secretary - the person in charge of this
side of things in the UK.)

For days now we have had nothing but supposed "scandal" about some
alleged visa-rigging for the nanny of his ex-girlfriend with polite
cooperation from all parties that "Blunkett is innocent but needs to
be seen as such to calm things down". Everything started up at the
weekend.

Practically NOTHING on radio, TV or major press about these changes
that Blunkett "just happened" to be discussing in Parliament on Monday.

(It's not as if there is anything in this visa business anyway: let's
face it, Keith Vaz got off scot-free for SELLING passports!)

Believe me, not everyone in the UK is impressed with this latest
raid on civil liberties ...
