US Burns Iraqis Alive with Napalm
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 04:31 AM by Ruffhowse
Sunday Mirror.co.uk

Nov 28 2004

By Paul Gilfeather Political Editor

US troops are secretly using outlawed napalm gas to wipe out remaining insurgents in and around Fallujah.
News that President George W. Bush has sanctioned the use of napalm, a deadly cocktail of polystyrene and jet fuel banned by the United Nations in 1980, will stun governments around the world.
And last night Tony Blair was dragged into the row as furious Labour MPs demanded he face the Commons over it. Reports claim that innocent civilians have died in napalm attacks, which turn victims into human fireballs as the gel bonds flames to flesh.
Outraged critics have also demanded that Mr Blair threatens to withdraw British troops from Iraq unless the US abandons one of the world's most reviled weapons. Halifax Labour MP Alice Mahon said: "I am calling on Mr Blair to make an emergency statement to the Commons to explain why this is happening. It begs the question: 'Did we know about this hideous weapon's use in Iraq?'"
Since the American assault on Fallujah there have been reports of "melted" corpses, which appeared to have napalm injuries.
Last August the US was forced to admit using the gas in Iraq.
A 1980 UN convention banned the use of napalm against civilians - after pictures of a naked girl victim fleeing in Vietnam shocked the world.
America, which didn't ratify the treaty, is the only country in the world still using the weapon.

2. I'm still waiting for this story to go corporate
The Abu Grahib story was actually well known well before the 60 minutes expose, but the matter was not taken seriously by many Americans because the story was coming from foreign presses.

When a story is covered by the corporate media that's when you know that most Americans will take it seriously, and that it can't just be dismissed as anti-American rantings from the foriegn presses or internet crankery.

I hope that same cycle plays out here as well.

4. When has our corporate media ever taken any journalistic responsibility
to reign in the Bushista excesses???

All the do is act like cheerleaders, hide the truth and lie their corporate asses off day in and day out.

I'm not holding my breath on this one.

5. Maybe the best thing for this country would be if a United Nations force
invaded Washington D.C., rounded up every last neo-con Repuke, each and every Repuke supporter and media supporter, tried them as war criminals ala Nuremburg, and created a U.N. peacekeeping force in D.C. until the friggin courts and politicians did away with those friggin' Diebold black box nightmares restored a democratic voting process, and held new national elections for President and every seat in Congress. And if the courts and politicians and corporate media refused, they should also be rounded up and given the same treatment.

Maybe we just have to start all over from scratch with nothing but the Constitution to go by.

3. If this story breaks in the N.A. mainstream
and is true, it has to be the point where the world reigns in its emperor.

This does so much damage in so many different ways.

7. Robert Fisk had many photos on his site of the victims...
They were burned horribly and looked exactly like the naplam victims of VietNam. It is interesting I can not access his site right now to post one. Coincidence?

:(

8. The Girl in the Picture
There is another image from Vietnam, more famous, which changed the course of the War and the way we look at all wars: Nick Ut's photograph of 9-year-old Kim Phuc, running up the road outside the village of Trang Bang, her skin on fire. The girl is naked and screaming in pain. That photograph, taken June 8, 1972, was printed on front pages of newspapers around the world. Suddenly, the image of an innocent child fleeing napalm horror became part of our collective conscience. It won a Pulitzer Prize for Nick Ut, and instant fame for the subject of the photograph. From that moment on, wherever she travelled in the world, Kim Phuc would never escape her picture. She would always be recognized as that girl…the girl in the picture.

9. I'll never get over this. I told my husband last year they were going to
torch this town. In April of 2003 when our troops rolled in, occupied the school, the townspeople responded with a peaceful protest amd "our" soldiers fired into the crowd assembled. I told my husband, that day that they would level this town. I'm sick and oh god, I am so sorry. I can't get through one day without thinking about Fallujah. I can't go out to eat, I can't go to a movie, I can't have any fun any more. My heart is truly breaking for everyone involved in this disaster.
