Pre-trial hearing held for US military guard in Abu Ghraib scandal
WASHINGTON (AFP) - A US soldier photographed with naked detainees at Iraq (news - web sites)'s Abu Ghraib prison appeared in court at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, for pre-trial hearings in her court-martial, a base spokesman said.

Private First Class Lynndie England faces charges of conspiracy to mistreat prisoners, assaulting detainees and indecent acts. Her trial is set to start in January, and she faces up to 38 years in prison if convicted.

A military judge was to hear motions in the case through Friday, the Fort Bragg public affairs office said in a statement. Military officials did not give details of what would be discussed at the hearings.
