Rising insurgent activity reported west of Fallujah

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A resurgence in armed actions broke out Tuesday in areas west of Fallujah along a key highway leading to Jordan, just weeks after a massive U.S.-led military offensive in the city.

Heavily armed anti-American insurgents on Tuesday took over and briefly held nine police stations and highway checkpoints, blowing up two buildings, police said.

Drivers reported that insurgents also took control of large sections of the highway leading west out of Iraq, stopping traffic and shaking down passengers.

Insurgents also took over six checkpoints west of Ramadi, Delemi said.

"I didn't see any policemen on the road. There was some American (military presence), but it was scattered," he said.

Insurgents seized other police checkpoints and stations near the town of Baghdadi, al Rutba and Tanaf, policeman Jomaa A'atia said.

.... This is a pretty frightening report from all over Iraq.

8. not bad for a broken back
we shouldn't have stopped at breaking the backs of the insurgents, they seem to be functioning ok with that injury.

10. The Military announced it was going to re-invade Fallujah what
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 04:18 PM by Lone_Star_Dem
... about a month before going in? Then they try and say the broke the back of the "insurgents" there.

If I were a person in Fallujah who was fighting the Americans I sure would not have waited around for them to come knocking at my door. Their strength lies in being able to blindside the American forces not in head on attacks. I think they dispersed to fight another day.

This to me shows how political the Fallujah battle really was. If it were to have had any real impact you would not announce it that far in advance. Then they have the nerve to go in and blast the locals to pieces and pat themselves on the back for a job well done. It makes me ill to think of it.

Either that or our military really is that foolish. Some days I just can't decide.
