Prince Bernhard of Holland Dies at Age 93


AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - Prince Bernhard, the father of the Netherlands' Queen Beatrix, died Wednesday. He was 93.

The Royal House announced his death in a statement. Bernhard had been diagnosed with cancer in mid-November. Last week the Royal House said tumors had spread to his stomach and lungs, causing difficulty breathing. He was moved to Utrecht University Medical Hospital on Wednesday.

He had been unwell for some time. His wife, the former Queen Juliana died early this year, and he nearly couldn't attend her funeral due to his poor health.
