NV PRESIDENTIAL RACE: Two seek statewide recount
Two minor party presidential candidates, who combined for less than one-half of 1 percent of the vote in Nevada, are asking the state to recount its presidential ballots to determine if errors or fraud may have altered the outcome.

The secretary of state's office on Monday received a letter from Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik and Green Party candidate David Cobb seeking the recount.

State law permits a candidate to seek a recount within three business days of the election canvass, a requirement met by Cobb and Badnarik.

Clerks and election officials will be asked to determine how much it will cost to recount the vote in each of the 17 counties. Once the state determines the cost of a recount, Badnarik and Cobb will receive a bill, for perhaps as much as $500,000.

2. Exactly. Considering they are ulikely to gain votes and can
possibly lose votes if any Kerry votes went to them.

5. I take back everything bad I said about third parties
Boy do I have egg on my face....and I was calling Nader a spoiler this election (i voted for him 2000). In the end, it was third parties that gave more of a shit about our democracy then the entrenched two parties.

I've learned my lesson.

8. Egg-xactly...Don't feel like the only one...They are shaming Kerry into
doing something. Welcome to DU, and the Gee, sometimes I'm wrong club! At least here, people can sometimes admit that they are barking up the wrong tree and move to a new tree.

6. And the beauty of this is...
that they damn well know they have nothing to gain themselves, more likely to lose. Yet they fight for every vote to be counted...now THAT's democracy at its finest!

9. They may be asking for volunteers to monitor the recounts if it is
allowed in your state. All indications are that we will have a recount in all of Ohio's 88 counties in a few weeks and I have put myself in for consideration through Moveon.org.
