S.D. Union-Tribune Vet Goldsborough Quits After Column Is Spiked
http://www.mediainfo.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000729669

Longtime San Diego (Calif.) Union-Tribune columnist Jim Goldsborough is quitting the paper, saying Publisher David C. Copley abruptly pulled a column scheduled to run Monday as "payback" for his criticism of President Bush.

Goldsborough said the reason he was given after the fact is that the column, about why Jewish voters overwhelmingly cast their presidential ballots for John Kerry, was "offensive."

"The publisher said it might be offensive. To whom? That's the question The column is not offensive to Jews. Maybe to Bush," Goldsborough said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "I don't think I'm 'liberal,' but I'm certainly not pro-Bush, and I think this was payback."

3. If Jim Goldsborough isn't liberal ... the Pope is not a ...
Catholic.

He was the one bright spot in the U-T. And there is no doubt in my mind it was payback.

I live just north of San Diego County. Remember, it was here that the Michael Moore appearance was originally cancelled at San Marcos U. Of course, I saw at the Del Mar Racetrack after the protest.

Being fired by the U-T is an honor, as far as I'm concerned. Hopefully, he will gravitate towards the L.A. Times.

I cancelled my subscription to the U-T a long time ago, because of its right-wing slant. After all, it endorsed * for president, one of the few newspapers in Cal to do so.

2. More purging of liberal media-I heard this guy on C-SPAN
His speech was so strongly anti-Bush that I was astounded to learn he was a Union-Tribune editorialist.

There's a rally On December 9th at 3pm in front of the U-T to protest the newspaper's blackout on covering the stolen election. Let's all show up and add some "Bring back Goldsborough" signs, too!

Letters to the editors, everyone, please! We're a one-newspaper town with biased TV stations, too.

4. Not surprising as San Diego being a Republican bastion, same
as for the mayor race where the people lost in that case.

6. That case just came alive again.
I heard this morning that the State Supreme Court told the Registrar not to certify the election. It plans a hearing for today or tomorrow, I believe. No reason given for the intervention. It could favor Frye, or another candidate who filed a frivolous suit.

5. Let's invite this guy here to talk....
I'll bet he's a member of San Diego Press Club, so we could contact him. I'd love to hear the dirt on what really went on here, and what it would take to get some REAL editorial balance at the UT.

9. I echo the sentiments expressed in this thread.
It sure would be interesting to hear what he has to say. Maybe we will. And, that is exactly what the U-T is good for.
