AARP to Test, Approve Home Depot Products
ATLANTA -- AARP, the nation's largest organization of senior citizens, is testing out a plan to put its seal of approval on hardware products such as bathroom and electrical fixtures that can help older people live at home more independently.

AARP is joining forces with The Home Depot, the nation's biggest chain of hardware stores. The Atlanta-based company said it plans to start rolling out the seal of approval items in an unspecified number of its 1,835 stores by next year.
.....
Home Depot, in turn, is hoping the program will allow it to tap into the growing number of older customers.

"They are very home-oriented with significant disposable income," merchandising chief John Costello said.

1. Home Depot and AARP..... interesting
Home Depot is a HUGE Repug contributor, and the AARP sold out their members with the Repug drug bill.

They make a cute couple.

17. My thoughts exactly
...two tired old whores, splitting the dif on the same corner.

Screw them. I'd rather save a ten or twenty more and go local, to someone I know, who is true and blue. F them and their GOP toadying.

7. Buy at Lowes or if you have a "local hardware store" still in business...
Home Depot can go to Hell! I hate the "big box" stores anyway, but this is just too much!

15. I choose Lowes over Home Depot b/c of HD's support of the right, but
while I shop at Lowes, I'm not sure of *their* political leanings. Do you know who they support?

20. I ended up buying my dishwasher from an "Independent" and got
trashed! What I bought that the salesman sold me differed from what arrived...but it wasn't until I loaded in my dishes that I discovered it.

Then...when I called the salesman who spent over a hour with us pointing out why I should upgrade that I realized he "Baited and Swithed Us." AND..I made a point of leaving Lowe's and bypassing Home Depot to go to a local seller...and the guy screwed me....

But, we are too "nicey, nice" to get him to replace the machine that he sold is which is different from what he told us...because he's "local."

We did phone him that the Diswasher that was installed wasn't what we ordered, but he said: "Oops...sorry, the manufacturer changed that on your model...so we delivered you the "new model" that we had in the showroom..but "yeah, it's not what you saw."

So, I've got a dishwasher that was sold to me under false pretenses delivered and the salesman says "Oops" they changed that little "doohickie" we told you about...but we gave you a $40.00 rebate and our prices are lower than "Lowes" even though we are an independent...sorry...they changed the model.

I'm burning mad about this but "Hubby" says...well we saved $40.00 with the rebate and more if we'd bought the same thing at Lowe's.

I say...the GUY BATED AND SWITCHED US! HE WAS NICE...the company is Local and I wanted to BUY LOCAL and not BIG BOX...and he CHEATED US...Hubby called him and told him wifey was very angry over "bait and switch" the guy said..."Hey...sorry, they changed the model it's in your house now...do you want us to take it out?"

????????

5. Well I need a new dishwasher and I walked in the Home Depot door and Out!
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 09:54 PM by KoKo01
last night because prominently (In big Red) posted on the door they posted that they "Drug Test Employees" I had just been to Lowe's and didn't find what I wanted and Home Depot is across the street. After I went through the automatic door having read that disgusting announcement about how they "control their employees" I realized that I could NOT BUY
ANYTHING there ANYMORE. I LEFT.

Just so you know...I've never used drugs I needed to be tested for in my life and I don't really approve of pot, heroin whatever use...BUT...that someone employed at Home Depot has to be subjected to urine tests for drug usage was totally offensive to me. I will NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!

I'm shocked AARP approved this...but then I've heard they are swooning in Bush's arms lately. I won't join them either, even though they've sent me their crap since I turned 35 and I'm older now but they offended me then and they still offend me....RANT!

10. I would be shocked if Lowe's didn't test for drugs
The majority of retailers test for drugs, and investigate backgrounds.

11. Lowes doesn't have it in a 3x5 foot red sign pasted on their door, and
neither does any other store I've been in. I refuse to shop in a place that announces something like that. It sounded like Bush tactics to me.

"Shop at Home Depot, 'cause we don't allow no druggies here...we're protecting our customers.." Disgusting to me...

24. Drug testing
Many employers test for drug use before employment.
It makes sense esp at big box stores when you see those forklifts go whizzing by.
Although they prominently display it at the front door, you would not believe how many decide to forge ahead and end up failing the test.
Did they think HD was kidding? Ha, they must have been on drugs or sumtin.

8. And we know that AARP's primary concern is the safety/welfare of seniors
Right? Rest assured that only the safest products will get the AARP seal of approval. AARP would never lie about their recommendations to seniors, would they?

and tell them this is no different then when they tried to champion Bush's phony medicare/prescription program. I thought they had learned their lesson on being so Republican leaning.

18. Bob Novelli sold the AARP soul to the chimp
...I personally know a dozen, maybe more, geezers who QUIT, with prejudice, that outfit. Once upon a time, they embraced the social liberal agenda--health care for all, day care for kids and the elderly, those silly feel-good programs that we could AFFORD if we just took a look at our priorities...

Now all they give a damn about is telling geezers that they can get cheaper pharmaceuticals by joining some lameass program. So, ya get X amount from yer pension, and yer drugs cost X minus Y. We'll give you a ten buck savings so you can buy some cat food and eat that, and ya should be happy.

Bastards.

Mean, miserable BASTARDS. Screw them!

19. I knew AARP was lost to the dark side when they wished Newt happy birthday
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 12:14 AM by Straight Shooter
I used to borrow a friend's AARP mag so I could check out what's going on with what will be my future in the not-so-distant future. Well, last year, there was Newt's smarmy face on the Birthday page. I almost gagged.

I should have written them a letter and explained to them why Newt is not a role model for "senior" citizens, certainly not someone worth celebrating his birthday. In retrospect, knowing what I know now, they would have thrown it into the round file.

As for me, I'll never join AARP. And neither will any of my friends. We all think AARP has become self-absorbed, politically myopic, and morally vulgar.

edit, oops, missed a word
