BRAZIL TO BREAK AIDS DRUGS PATENTS!
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/7C52DC38-1D71-417F-934E-330C59304CED.htm

"Brazil will break patents on some foreign Aids drugs next year to escape the control of multinational firms holding developing countries hostage, the government has said."

Hallelujah! Now if only India and the rest follow suit, the AIDS Holocaust might come to an end.

Meanwhile, millions of Africans and others have died in 2004 because the United States/British/Swiss corporate pigs insist on protecting their AIDS drug patents rather than save lives in poor developing countries.

Fuck GlaxoSmithKline. Fuck Abbott Labs. Fuck Roche. Fuck Bristol-Myers Squibb. May they and their silent shareholders burn in Hell for allowing this Holocaust to occur on their watch.

At least the Germans had an excuse for remaining silent during the Jewish Holocaust. They would have been killed if they spoke up. We in America have no such excuse for remaining indifferent to these millions of AIDS deaths. We will NOT be killed if we speak out against unfair patent protection during this world epidemic. While these huge multinational drug companies forbid cheap generic versions of their AIDS products, millions of children are dying.

1. They've been threatening to do this for a while
and got better deals with the drug companies as a result. Brazil leads the world in combating AIDS, where it once had one of the highest rates of infection.
Lula's got guts. You have to give it to him. He's not afraid to use Brazil's power for the country's advantage.

2. Good news!
Now if dumb ass Bush would just follow suit!

I watched Democracy Now today and got so mad over the AIDS drug thing and the ABC program Bush would rather spend the money on, preaching abstinence! Is this a nightmare or do we really have a president that is this DUMB?

The Clinton Foundation is doing more for Global AIDS relief than the US Government...I hate Bush and all his little evangelical freaks!

3. this is great news!
An alternate headline might have read: "Brazil puts the health of it's citizens before the profits of Big Pharma." I hope they bootleg by the freighter load!

now start busting more of them. Intellectual property laws have gotten WAY out of control since the 80's. Time for countries take it upon themselves to start ignoring many of them- especially in the pharmaceutical and biotech area.

6. Now if they would work on their male domination problems
It's my understanding that the Brazilian machismo is quite rightly to blame for the spread of much AIDS, as the men go to their mistresses of the night and then "share the love" with their wives, many of whom are subjugated to the point of not daring to bring up the use of condoms or questioning their husband's "adventures."

But at least Brazil is doing something about the problem, even if it's attacking the symptoms of the disease instead of a major cause of the spread of the disease.
