U.N. fears 100 Rwandan troops enter Congo
UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Fearing a renewed conflict in Central Africa, the United Nations Wednesday reported a helicopter escorting 100 troops, believed to be Rwandan soldiers, crossing into the easternmost portion of neighboring Congo.

"A group of 100 men suspected of being Rwandan soldiers was seen by a MONUC patrol in Rutshuru this morning,'' Patricia Tome, a spokeswoman for the U.N. mission, said at a news conference in Kinshasa.

"They were escorted by a helicopter," she told United Press International by telephone from the capital city.

At the earlier news conference, Tome said MONUC -- the French acronym for the U.N. mission in Congo -- had yet to verify whether or not the soldiers in question are Rwandan. She said a team was trying to confirm the report.
