HRC president is asked to resign

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Human Rights Campaign President Cheryl Jacques has been asked to resign as head of the gay/lesbian lobbying group, The Washington Times said Wednesday.

The move comes after gay-marriage advocates suffered a serious setback in the 2004 election. Voters in 11 states approved ballot measures defining marriage as only existing between a man and woman.

President Bush's re-election, despite the HRC's "George W. Bush: You're Fired" campaign, is the probable reason for the effort to change the group's leadership, the newspaper said.

"This election was cast as the biggest election of our generation, and we lost," said former HRC spokesman Wayne Besen. "People are upset, they're hurt and they want some heads to roll."

1. Wayne Besen has a lot of credibility with me...
so if he takes a certain viewpoint, I can buy into it. I enjoy his columns, and I'm a 46-year-old married hetero mom (I'm not sure I'm his exact target audience, i.e.). He is very articulate and comes up with very perceptive commentary.

But I joined the HRC because I wanted to support an org. that unabashedly fights for human rights (e.g. same-sex marriage, and domestic partnership/civil-unions). I would hate to see them back down.

Interesting.

4. Hilary Sue?
Isn't this group all about protecting the privacy of the bedroom from government intrusion?

So now they will have a president who led the effort to sue people for downloading music in the privacy of their own homes?

That group won't be getting any contributions from me for awhile.

6. im sorry but to turn against your own
in the light of bigotry is pretty weak. that quote about people want heads to roll is just scapegoating.

Im sure she was and is fighting every day for the cause.

The question if she is the right leader should be seperate from the screwed up system that allowed those amendments to pass.
