'FUTURE TOTAL FORCE': Air Force brings Reserves, Guard closer
Air Force leaders said Wednesday they will launch six experiments to meld the regular service with its Reserve components, including an expanded role for remotely piloted Predator spy planes at Nellis Air Force Base's airfield at Indian Springs.

"I think we want to get started right away with it," said Lt. Gen. Steve Wood, deputy chief of staff for Air Force Plans and Programs.

"Our reserves already have people onboard flying in aggressor squadrons and in Predator squadrons," said Wood, who left Nellis in October after having commanded the Air Warfare Center there since 2002.

The Indian Springs Auxiliary Field, 45 miles northwest of Las Vegas, is home to three Predator squadrons and will be used to train regular Air Force, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve troops for two new squadrons to be located at sites to be named in Texas and Arizona, Wood said.
