Possible Arrest Made In BTK Serial Killer Case
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- There has been a possible arrest in the BTK serial killings case in Wichita, Kan., KMBC reported Thursday.

BTK is accused of a string of murders in the '70s and '80s. Earlier this year, the man who calls himself BTK, which stands for bind, torture and kill, made contact with the media again. Just this week, police released more details about him.

KMBC reported that overnight, police searched a home and took a 64-year-old man into custody. But Wichita investigators have not confirmed that the arrest is connected with the BTK case.

4. Wichita Police Make Arrest In BTK Killer Case
WICHITA, Kan. -- KCTV5 News is following breaking news out of Wichita. Police have made an arrest in the BTK killer case.

Wichita police arrested arrested a 64-year-old man from a home northwest of McConnell Air Force Base on Wednesday night. The man was brought in on an old trespassing charge.

Police were seen wearing gloves and carrying plastic bags out of the house. Police were executing a search warrant in connection with the BTK killings, but right now they are not commenting on the activities inside that home.

The man they arrested lived next to railroad tracks. On Tuesday, Wichita police released detailed information, saying that the BTK suspect was fascinated by trains.

Police testing man's DNA in BTK serial killings in Wichita

ROXANA HEGEMAN

Associated Press

WICHITA, Kan. - Authorities are testing the DNA of a man arrested on minor trespassing and housing code violations to see if he has any connection with the BTK serial killings that terrorized the city in the 1970s, state police said Thursday.

Since the 1980s, police have tested hundreds of samples of blood and DNA in the case, police noted.

Wichita police spokeswoman Janet Johnson told reporters Thursday that no arrest has been made in the BTK case and that investigators have received thousands of tips. If people named in the tips have outstanding warrants, they are picked up, she said. That's what happened Wednesday night, when the man was arrested, she said.

Kansas Bureau of Investigation spokesman Kyle Smith also cautioned that the man may not have anything to do with the case.

3. Strange case and then again strange investigation.
The guy has been bouncing clues all around for years when he was active and then nothing until the past couple of years he resurfaces. Either he is dead or someone is pretending to be him, or then again he finally decided he needed to be caught. My guess is he spent a considerable time in the joint.

6. one of the victims was involved in the Inter-American Air Forces Academy
His father knew something was wrong, Otero said, citing several instances in the days before the murders that were "very suspicious." One time when the power went out, his father made the family get into a closet until he made sure the neighborhood was also dark.

Another time, when a telephone repairman showed up at the house, Joseph Otero made his son go to a window to make sure there was a company van there before he opened the door.

Just days before he was killed, Joseph Otero, who worked as an aircraft mechanic, tried to give his son his ring in case something happened to him.

"Nobody hated my family," Otero said. "I am sure it had something to do with my father's military history. My dad did things. … He had to tell somebody what he had been up to in the last few years and he was dead days later."

Otero said an overheard telephone conversation his father had days before his death is the reason for his belief in a military connection. He said his father was involved with the Inter-American Air Forces Academy, a program that has trained Air Force personnel from Latin America for 60 years.

8. What a load of crap!
They beat and arrested this man for not painting his house! They're destroying his house now and stealing his property for not painting his house! How many of us here have houses that need painting? Well you better fix that before bushie sends his thugs to take your freedom and steal your property. You no longer have any rights in this country.

10. Scratches head
Every single article I've read and every news story I've seen on this has mentioned that. It's ridiculous that this happens over not painting your house. If they think he's guilty of murder, they should build a case and arrest him. This crap of making-up BS just so you can arrest anyone you please, destroy their property, and steal their property is the end of our freedom. Welcome to the four more years of Bushie.

13. vpigrad: oh please.....
..why dony you read the article before you make such silly references to this being a result of Bush and co.?....the article clearly states that broken cars and trash were factors in the warrant. I dont know about you but as a property owner I know the types who leave their junk cars and trash everywhere and do nothing about it. garbage attracts rodents etc..junk cars are a danger to children in the area....would any of us want to live next door to someone like this that obviously has ignored health and environmental citations to the point that a warrant was issued at some time?...these laws (including citations regarding 'house painting') are to the best of my knowledge exist as a reflection of the community that makes such rules..hardly can be blamed on the feds in this case....as far as DNA , thanks to laws that protect suspects, depending on the state, you cant just bring someone in to get their dna..and no. Im not a freeper. Just a moderate voice that needs to speak up when I see such silliness posted here on DU.

11. BTK suspect para military training?
FOX was babbling and said he had an Hispanic name, and had "special military training". It occurred to me, what if he was a graduate of the School of the Americas torture institute? What if he took his "work" home with him?

14. Anyone know of any good books on this topic?
I'm interested in it, but don't know a whole lot about it.

I was wondering if there were any good/interesting books devoted to the case. I looked up "bind torture kill" on Amazon and didn't immediately see anything except for a bunch of weird stuff.

Any help would be appreciated.
